Please Note This Important Update:
Farmstand Closed for Remainder of August
A Farm & Storm Damage Update
Our farmstand will be closed for the month of August while we take some time to regroup, recover, and begin rebuilding after the significant storm damage our farm experienced in late July.
An extraordinary storm brought more than 8 inches of rain to our area in a very short period of time, sending rushing water through our flower fields and gardens. Planted areas were washed out, soil was severely saturated, and rock, gravel, and debris were deposited throughout portions of the farm.
Unfortunately, one of our greatest losses has been our dahlia crop. We planted approximately 2,000 dahlias representing more than 200 varieties this season for cut flower production, future tuber stock, and the farm experiences we had hoped to share with you this fall. After sitting in waterlogged soil, a significant portion of the crop has been lost to rot.
Dahlias have also become an important part of the financial sustainability of our farm. Beyond the flowers we harvest throughout the season, the tubers we carefully dig, divide, store, and sell each spring provide an important source of farm revenue. Losing this crop affects not only this growing season, but also our plans for the year ahead.
For August, our focus will be on cleaning up, assessing our remaining crops, repairing damaged areas, and determining the best path forward.
This is a pause—not the end of our season.
We are looking ahead to fall and plan to reopen with seasonal classes and workshops, Halloween activities, and eventually our holiday workshops and events in the barn. We will be sharing a calendar of events for the remainder of the year as plans are finalized.
We are incredibly grateful for the messages, offers of help, purchases, and encouragement we have received from our community. Supporting a small farm means celebrating the beautiful seasons with us—and sometimes standing beside us through the difficult ones, too.
Thank you for giving us a little time to regroup. We look forward to welcoming you back to the farm this fall.
